Yesterday was Power Talk 21 day - MADD's annual day to encourage parents to talk to their children about their decision to drink alcohol. Hanover Cares and MADD partnered with 6 local churches to briefly present the perils of underage drinking to their congregations and distribute the Power of Parents handbooks after their morning services. As a result, over 500 people heard about the dangers of underage drinking, and over 150 parents received a free handbook that encourages them to talk to their kids about their decision to drink alcohol. Seventy-five percent of children say their parents are their biggest influence on their decision to drink alcohol.
Hanover Cares would like to thank the following churches for opening their doors, and more importantly, their hearts, to receive what may have been an unusual Sunday morning message:
New Song Church - Pastor Chad Herndon
Ashland Church of God - Pastor Aaron Burgess
CenterPoint Church - Pastor Michael Cauthorne
Messiah Lutheran - Pastor Lou Florio
Grace Community - Pastor Clint Dowda
All Souls Episcopal - Reverend Amelie Wilmer
This Wednesday evening from 7:00PM - 8:00PM, New Song Church will be hosting a Power of Parents workshop for those who may have additional questions about the handbook they received, or for those who received one and would like to invite a friend to learn more about their influence on their children.
