Project Sticker Shock
Project Sticker Shock is a youth-led prevention initiative that empowers young people to make a positive impact in their community by raising awareness about the dangers and legal consequences of providing alcohol to minors.
Working alongside local law enforcement, community organizations, and participating retailers, Hanover youth help educate adults about Virginia's underage drinking laws and encourage responsible choices that protect our young people.
What is Project Sticker Shock?
During the campaign, youth volunteers visit participating retail stores with representatives from the Hanover County Sheriff's Office, the Ashland Police Department, Hanover Cares, and Hanover County Community Services.
Together, they place prevention stickers on multi-packs of beer, wine coolers, and other alcoholic beverages that may appeal to underage drinkers. These stickers are meant to remind customers that purchasing or providing alcohol to anyone under the age of 21 is illegal and carries serious consequences.
